French Toast Custard
 
Ingredients: 8 to 10 slices day-old French bread (1 in. thick)
5 tbs. butter or margarine, melted
4 eggs
2 egg yolks
3 c. milk
1 c. whipping cream
½ sugar
1 tbs. vanilla extract
¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
Optional: confectioners' sugar
Method: Brush both sides of bread with butter; place in a greased 13x9x2 in. baking dish.
In a large bowl, beat eggs and yolks. Add milk, cream, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg; mix well. Pour over the bread. Cover and chill overnight. Remove from refridgerator 30 min. before baking.
Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 55-60 min. or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool 10 min. before serving.
